SURRY – Lena Margaret (Kelley) Leavitt, 90, died Dec. 5, 2010, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Aug. 31, 1920, in Fort Fairfield, daughter of John P. and Georgiana (Caron) Kelley. Lena grew up in Limestone and graduated from Limestone High School, Presque Isle Normal School and Gorham Teachers College. Lena taught school in Greenville, Caribou and Limestone. In 1955 she married David Coughlin and helped him run the shoe shop in Ellsworth until David passed away in 1976. In 1979 she married Gerald Leavitt. Lena was employed for 20 years at Union Trust Co. Bank until her retirement in 1990. Lena was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and was active in the Women’s Council and the Golden Age. She was also a Eucharistic minister for those who could not attend church. She was a member of East Surry Extension, delivered Meals For Me and volunteered at Colliers Rehabilitation and Nursing Home. Lena was a devoted bridge player and enjoyed playing the game with her many loyal friends. She is survived by her brother, Neal Kelley and wife, Marlene; stepsons, David Coughlin Jr. and wife, Jeannie, Christopher Leavitt and Ollie Swaim; many thoughtful nieces and nephews. She also has several great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents; husbands, David Coughlin and Gerald Leavitt; sisters, Marie Burke and Lauretta Mahany; brothers, Linwood, Hubert and J. Bertrand Kelley; stepdaughter, Marion Swaim; and stepson, Richard Coughlin. Friends are invited to visit with the family 11 a.m.-noon Thursday, Dec. 9, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 231 Main St., Ellsworth, with a Mass of Christian burial being held at noon with Father Scott Mower, celebrant. Interment will be at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery, Limestone. Contributions in Lena’s memory may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 231 Main St., Ellsworth, ME 04605.
