SCARBOROUGH – David L. Richards, 75, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, at his home. Born July 18, 1935, in Portland, he was the son of the late Leo Richards and Emily Crompton. He was a 1954 graduate of Carmel High School and was a retired truck driver for Hannaford. After his retirement he worked part-time in the Hannaford bakery. For five years David owned and ran Tory Hill Caf?, Buxton. In 1958, he married Joyce Hawes. He served in the National Guard Reserve. David was a state champion in the truck rodeo and at one time a pilot in training for the U.S. Postal Service. He loved boating and hunting, was kind-hearted, hardworking and loved by all that knew him. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Pamela S. Richards. He is survived by his wife of 52 years; one son, David Richards of Portland; two daughters, Tammy Richards and Patricia Galope, both of Portland; two sisters, Helen Moore of Delaware and Merle “Cookie” Brown of Ellsworth; six grandchildren, Vanessa, Joey, Miles, Chelsea, Paris and Bella; three great-grandchildren, Mia, Kai and Lavani; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Sally.
