SANGERVILLE – Sheldon W. Foster, 79, died Dec. 6, 2010, at Maine Veterans Home, Bangor. He was born June 3, 1931, in Sangerville, son of Henry and Bertha (Clark) Foster. He was a member of the last class to graduate from Sangerville High School in 1949. He was president of Sangerville High School Alumni Association for many years. After high school he served for four years in the U.S. Navy, and was a member of Stott Flanders American Legion Post, Sangerville. Sheldon worked for New England Telephone Co. for 40 years, retiring in 1995. He was president of Jasper N. Keller Chapter of the Telephone Pioneers, serving Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont, where he spent many hours working with Special Olympics and at Pine Tree Camp. He served as member of SAD 4 School Board. He had served as president of United Church of Christ, Sangerville, and later was a member of Grace Bible Church, Sangerville. Sheldon was very active in Masonry, including, past master of Abner Wade Masonic Lodge, Sangerville; past district deputy grand master of the Fifth Masonic District; past high priest of Piscataquis Royal Arch Masons; member of Anah Temple Shrine and had been appointed assistant to the potentate in 1997; member of St. John’s Commandery and Knights Templar, Bangor; Maine District Deputies Association; Central Council No. 18 Royal and Select Masters; and was associated with the Scottish and York rites. He was also a past patron of the Susie Carr Chapter of Order of the Eastern Star. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Wanda (Smith) Foster of Sangerville; three sons, Steven Foster and his wife, Sharon, of Dexter, Andrew Foster and his wife, Tammy, of Dover-Foxcroft, and Nathan Foster and his wife, Nikki, of South Carolina; a brother, Maynard Foster and his wife, Anna, of Ripley; a sister, Martha Ludwiczak of Massachusetts; son-in-law, David Ciemny of New York; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Norine Ciemny. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, at Crosby & Neal, 21 Oak St., Guilford, where Masonic services will be held 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with Pastor Daryl Witmer officiating. Spring burial will be at Lawn Cemetery, Guilford.
