INDIALANTIC, Fla. – Mrs. Madeleine M. (Albert) Cyr, 83, died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010, surrounded by her family at her home, after a lengthy illness. She was the beloved wife of Aubrey A. Cyr, with whom she shared almost 64 years of marriage. Born and raised in Van Buren, she was daughter of the late Dr. Armand and Marie (Lussier) Albert. She was a graduate of Ursuline Academy, Quebec, and Van Buren High School. After her marriage, she and her husband moved to Nahant, Mass., in 1951, where they raised seven children. She was a former member of Nahant Garden Club, a Cub Scout leader and a volunteer at St. Thomas Aquinas Church. She loved to travel, garden and read. When her children were young, she instituted family quiz game nights, fostering a love of learning in the children. She and her family were very involved in the publication of “Portage Lake: History and Hearsay,” a book about Portage Lake’s history and inhabitants. After her husband’s retirement, Madeleine and he spent their winters in their vacation home in Indialantic, Fla., and their summers in Portage Lake, stopping to visit their children in Massachusetts on their way. In addition to her husband, she leaves her son, Michael Cyr and his wife, Virginia, of Reading, Mass.; her daughter, Suzanne Hamill and her husband, Daniel, of Nahant, Mass.; her sons, James Cyr and his companion, Deborah Miles, of Indialantic, Fla., Allen Cyr and Stephen Cyr, both of Haleiwa, Hawaii; her daughter, Carol Hanson of North Conway, N.H.; and her daughter, Elizabeth Cyr of Palm Bay, Fla. She was the beloved grandmother of Christopher Cyr of Massachusetts, Stephanie Anderberg and her husband, Joel, of Massachusetts, Sandra Cyr and her husband, Matthew MacGregor, of North Carolina, Brian Hamill of Massachusetts, Jennifer Mahan and her husband, Christopher, of Massachusetts, Scott Hamill and his wife, Anne, of Massachusetts, Katherine Braidman and her husband, Michael, of Massachusetts, Renee Hanson Ricker and her husband, Brian, of New Hampshire, Aaron Hanson, Monica Hanson and Kenneth Cyr, all of Massachusetts, and Dylan Henry of Florida. She also leaves her cherished great-grandchildren, Sovay and Gavin Anderberg, Kyle, Madeleine and James Mahan, Peter Hamill and Isabelle Braidman, all of Massachusetts, and Molly and Jack Ricker of New Hampshire. In addition, she leaves her brothers, Louis Albert, Paul A. Albert and his wife, Jeanne, Paul J. Albert, Marcel Albert and his wife, Mary Rose, and Gilles Albert; beloved cousins, nieces and nephews; and many devoted friends in Florida and Maine. At her request, there will be no funeral services. A celebration of her wonderful life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Madeleine’s family requests donations be made to Hospice of Health First, 1900 Dairy Road, West Melbourne, FL 32904.
