CAPE ELIZABETH, Maine — A fire in the cafeteria of the middle school here has caused the school to send students home.

The fire started Tuesday morning in a dryer, according to a notice posted on the school’s website. “The situation is completely under control, and staff will supervise each student throughout the dismissal process,” the notice stated.

Students were sent home around 10 a.m. due to a “lingering odor,” the notice said.
