STARKS, Maine — An 8-year-old boy is facing charges he called 911 and said his house in Starks was on fire and his parents were trapped inside.
Firefighters from three towns went to the boy’s address within 12 minutes Saturday night only to learn there was no emergency.
The case was turned over to the Maine State Police. The boy’s name was not released.
Maine State Police Lt. Donald Pomelow said the boy has been charged with making a false report. He could be ordered to attend counseling, pay restitution or face other discipline.
Starks Fire Chief Julie Costigan told the Portland Press Herald that when crews arrived they only found two children and a baby sitter. The 911 call had been made from another location.
