AUGUSTA – Our beloved mother, JoAnn Stewart Sawyer, 81, passed away Dec. 14, 2010, at Augusta Rehabilitation Center, after a brief illness. She was born May 9, 1929, in Linneus, to Clifford and June Stewart. JoAnn was a member of Family Christian Center, Presque Isle, and Kennebec Valley Assembly of God. Most of all she enjoyed coffee with friends, card games and her crochet knitting group on Willow Street. Her grandchildren ultimately enjoyed the warmth of her famous, multi-colored afghans. JoAnn loved her grandchildren, family and many friends more than life, keeping her husband’s extended Sawyer family close, who remained loyal and supportive through her life. She always had a story to share of her grandchildren and shared those tales with great pride. Following the love of her family and friends, she enjoyed cooking and planting flowers. Friends too many to name kept her social life busy, which she often spoke of in her final days. JoAnn was predeceased by her father, Clifford Stewart; mother, June Stewart London; stepfather, Colie London; and husband, George W. Sawyer. She is survived by four children: daughter, Pamela and her husband, Stan Bradley, of Ocala, Fla., and sons, Clifford and his wife, JoAnn, of Yarmouth, Calvin of Augusta and Colin of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Tracy and her husband, Jim Willis, Todd Damon, and Benjamin, Brenton and Kaitlyn Sawyer; and one great-grandchild, Sara Willis. A brief memorial service will be conducted 7 p.m. Dec. 29 at Kennebec Valley Assembly of God. A formal service and interment will be conducted in May 2011 at Family Christian Center, Presque Isle. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to PALS Shelter, 188 Case Road, Winthrop, ME 04364.
