BATON ROUGE, La. – Arthur Douglas Wiles Jr., 81, a native of Brewer and resident of Baton Rouge, La., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2010. He attended the University of Maryland, after which he spent six years in the U.S. Navy as crew chief on PBM Mariner aircraft. The next 55 years he spent in aviation, where he earned the title of master mechanic, which is listed in the Smithsonian Museum of Aviation. He was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed many hunts in many places. He is survived by his wife, Glenda McDaniel Wiles; daughter, Judy Wiles of Baton Rouge, La.; son, Arthur D. Wiles III and wife, Debbie, of Donald, Ore.; two granddaughters, Kathlyn Wiles and Hannah Wiles, both of Australia; two stepdaughters, Paula Carter Kimbrell and husband, the Rev. Dr. Cary Kimbrell of Laurel, Miss., and Robin Carter of Baton Rouge, La.; two stepsons, Al Carter and wife, Bridget, of Denham Springs, La., and John Carter of Baton Rouge, La.; 13 stepgrandchildren, three great-step-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Richard Giffard of Brewer; and two sisters-in-law, Dorothy M. Rader and Loyce M. Taylor, both of Baton Rouge, La. He was predeceased by his parents, Arthur D. Wiles Sr. and Marion Morse Wiles; two sisters, Barbara Wiles Giffard and Marjorie Wiles Brochu; and a brother, Robert A. Wiles, all of Brewer. Visitation and memorial services were held Sunday, Dec. 19, at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East Chapel, 11000 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, La., conducted by the Rev. Dr. Cary Kimbrell. Burial was afterward at Woodland Cemetery, Kentwood, La. He helped and touched many people and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
