DEER ISLE and ELLSWORTH – Carole B. Haskell passed away peacefully Dec. 19, 2010, surrounded by her loving family at Blue Hill Memorial Hospital. Carole was the daughter of the late Arthur “Dud” Haskell Jr. and Mabel Dow Pearson of Deer Isle. Carole is survived by her three daughters, Julie Allen and husband, Prin, Janet Carter, and Susan Lucey and husband, Patrick; and her beloved grandchildren, Taylor, Jennifer, Cissie and Nick. Carole was also much anticipating the birth of her first great-grandchild due in January. Carole is also survived by her two brothers, Jon Haskell and wife, Doreen, and David Pearson and partner, Bill Rice. Carole worked for many years at Blue Hill Memorial Hospital in the medical records department, where she gained the friendship of many. She had several interests, which included researching family genealogy, reading, beach combing and looking for lost treasures at Saturday morning tag sales. Carole took great joy in telling the children tall tales of the sea, particularly by reading stories by Robert McCloskey – one of her personal favorites “Burt Dow, Deep Water Man.” A special thanks to the late Frank Pickering and wife, Clara, for their dear friendship through the years, and of course their shared love for Red Sox baseball. Services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, at First Congregational Church, Deer Isle, with a celebration of Carole’s life afterward. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Island Angels, a charity for Islanders helping Islanders deal with cancer, care of Melissa Jones-Bayley, 42 Donnell Pond Road, Franklin, ME 04634.
