He was born May 16, 1951, at Sister’s Hospital, Waterville, the only child of the late Roger Clifton and Iva Louise (Dearborn) Small. Jeff graduated from Lawrence High School, Fairfield, Class of 1969. After graduation he served his country proudly by joining the Navy in July 1969. His entire service was aboard the aircraft carrier, CVA 42 Franklin D. Roosevelt. Jeff’s duty station was in electronic warfare. After completing his military service in July 1973, he continued his education at the University of Maine at Machias. He majored in business education. Later he continued in graduate school at Indiana University, Bloomington, Ind. After a year and a half, he returned to Maine with an education specialist degree in message design/vocational education. On June 6, 1975, Jeff married the love of his life, Anne Lee Linnell. They had a wonderful, loving marriage that lasted for 35 years. Out of their union their son, Alexander Lynn, was born in 1982. Some of Jeff’s employment throughout the years included: librarian at Fort Fairfield High School, in fall 1978; his few years as media specialist at the University of Maine at Presque Isle; and then as vocational instructor at Capital Area Technical Center, Augusta, in computer information and marketing management. His last position was the library/media specialist at Cony High School, Augusta. Jeff loved riding his FLT / CU with his family. He was adamant that a professional should give back to their profession. He was active in the Maine Educational Media Association from the time he started work until his retirement. He received Media Specialist of the Year in 1982. He was president of Maine Educational Media Association from 1982 to 1983, and then in 2005 he was the certification chair. In 2007 he again was president of Maine Association of School Libraries. Jeff was also coordinator at Capital Area Technical Center, Augusta, as the local Skills USA advisor. He also coached the opening and closing ceremony competition team. His team won sixth place in the nation, the best the state of Maine has ever done. He became a state and national judge of Skills USA. Jeff was also a state site coordinator, from 1995 to 2000, for the Harley Owners Group. He loved his bike and working with H.O.G. He was also an assistant director for Lewiston H.O.G. Chapter. Jeff loved directing the bikes from the “shop,” during the annual toy run going to Augusta. Jeff and Anne approached Stacy at her Hallmark store in Augusta looking to start a local club, and then Hallmark for ME was born. He and Anne loved to go shopping at Stacy’s Hallmark for decorations. They attended the Hallmark National Convention in Kansas City in 2009 and came home with a Christmas tree full of decorations. Everything Jeff did always seemed to turn into a wonderful adventure. He is survived by his wife, Anne of Sidney; their son, Alex of Sidney; one aunt, Margaret Dyer of New Mexico; cousins, nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and his special students, Alicia Clark and Gerard Bolduc. The family thanks Dr. Andrew Hertler, the nurses at Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care, and especially the nurses on A-4 at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta. They made us feel at home when we couldn’t go home. Jeff requested no public services. Arrangements are by Lawry Brothers Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 107 Main St., Fairfield.
