KINGMAN – Gilbert Olyn McKay, 70, husband of Robbie (Horton) McKay, passed away unexpectedly Dec. 27, 2010, at his home. He was born Jan. 30, 1940, in East Millinocket, son of Olyn Angus and Ruth Elene (Linscott) McKay. Gilbert was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Words cannot express the depth and grace of this quiet, gentle man. A very private individual, he loved the outdoors in its entire splendor and the wildlife it was home to. Hunting and fishing were his passions, and provided him hours of enjoyment. He possessed great knowledge and skill in his trade of metal fabrication, and loved sharing it with those he worked with. His Fastco family was a source of great pride, and he relished their friendship and the pride in knowing that the things they produced were some of the best in the industry. Personally, he was loved by all who knew him, and will be sorely missed by all. Slight in stature, he was living proof that to be a giant of a man, one need not be a giant in size. In addition to his wife, Robbie, he is survived by a son, Rogan McKay and his girlfriend, Spencer Sanderson, of Kingman; two daughters, Suzanne Apgar and her husband, David, of Danforth, and Cathy Davis and her husband, Kenny, of Lincoln; a brother, Phillip McKay and his wife, Mary, of Lincoln; many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Sandra. A celebration of life will be held 11 a.m. Jan. 15, 2011, at Mattawamkeag Municipal Building. Gifts may be made in his memory to Kingman Volunteer Fire Department or Penobscot Valley Animal Shelter, Lincoln. Arrangements with Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. Those who wish may sign an online register and leave written condolences at www.clayfuneralhome.com.
