FORT FAIRFIELD – Thomas O. Somers, 10, passed away Friday evening, Dec. 31, 2010, surrounded by his loving family at a Caribou health care facility, after a long, courageous battle with Batten’s disease. He was born Jan. 26, 2000, in Caribou, the son of Timothy and Sherry (Morrow) Somers. Thomas attended Fort Fairfield Elementary School. He was truly a fighter, and his strength and spirit were an inspiration to all who knew him. Thomas also was a huge Sponge Bob Square Pants fan. He was predeceased by his paternal grandmother, Carolyn Somers. He is survived by his parents, Timothy and Sherry Somers; maternal grandparents, Eugene and Lois Morrow, all of Fort Fairfield; paternal grandfather, Galen Somers of Caribou; aunts, Sheila Morrow Casper and her companion, Tony Desantis, and Michelle Morrow Stephens and her husband, Darcy, all of Hannibal, N.Y.; and cousins, Rachele Stephens and her companion, Kyle Vincent, Alexis Stephens, Kiley Casper and her companion, Dana Loveall, and Tyler Casper and his wife, Alyssa, all of Hannibal, N.Y. The family extends their sincere and heartfelt gratitude to all the caregivers who assisted Thomas throughout the years, and a special thank-you to Cary Medical Center, Caribou, for all they did for Thomas in his final days. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 3, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, where the funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, with the Rev. Mark Babin officiating. Spring interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will take place immediately after the funeral service at Veterans of Foreign Wars Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in memory of Thomas to Batten’s Disease Support and Research Association, 166 Humphries Drive, Reynoldsburg, OH 04068.
