SOUTHWEST HARBOR – Joyce W. Norwood, 88, died peacefully Dec. 28, 2010, at Birch Bay Retirement Village after a short stay. She was born March 11, 1922, in Limestone, daughter of Leigh and Julia Webster. After graduating from Limestone High School, Joyce attended Husson College. She worked as a bookkeeper for 45 years, first for Henry R Hinkley Co. during World War II, then for Southwest Harbor Motor Co. for many years and ending her career at Village Electonics. Joyce married Lewis Norwood Jr., Nov. 17, 1945. They were married 56 years. Joyce dearly loved her family, her many friends, her church, her cat, Romer and the staff at Straus Center. She loved the community of Southwest Harbor and her home there. Joyce is survived by a son, Leigh and his wife, Sylvia Wilder, of Brooksville; two grandchildren, Laura Hale of Ellsworth, and Adam Norwood and wife, Melissa, of Sargentville; and five great-grandchildren, Caleb Hale, Ethan Hale, Joseph Norwood, Tucker Norwood and Kathrine Norwood. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Jan. 15 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Southwest Harbor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joyce’s name to Straus Center Scholarship Fund, 16 Community Lane, Southwest Harbor, ME 04679.
