BREWER and BANGOR – Kathryn T. Lothrop, 98, daughter of Walter A. and Olive (Snow) Tarbox, died Jan. 1, 2011. She was born May 31, 1912, in Scarborough. Kathyrn was educated in Biddeford, where she lived until her marriage to Clayton R. Lothrop in 1936, who predeceased her in 1986. She worked at Mutual Fire Insurance Co., Saco, before moving to the Bangor and Brewer area. Kay was secretary to Hammond Street Congregational Church for many years and an active member of the church since May 5, 1951. After her retirement in 1974, she was distributor for Bangor Fuel Society. She was on the board of directors for Edward G. Ernst Manor and on the board of resident activities at Phillips-Strickland House. She was also a member of Stearns Circle of the King’s Daughters and Sons for many years. She is survived by one son, Roger M. Lothrop of New York City; one daughter, Patricia L. Garcia of Houston, Texas; a grandson, Mark C. Barrett of Bangor; a granddaughter, Rebecca Wilbur of Ellsworth; three great-grandsons, Nicholas Barrett, Christopher Oakes and Beau Wilbur; one niece, Barbara Butler of Grafton, Mass.; and many dear friends. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, at Hammond Street Congregational Church with the Rev. Dr. Mark Allen Doty, pastor, officiating. Spring interment will be at Dunston Cemetery, Scarborough.
