BUCKSPORT – Bessie C. Small, 90, died peacefully Jan. 11, 2011, at a Deer Isle nursing facility. She was born April 2, 1920, in Bucksport, the daughter of Warren E. and Laura E. (Harriman) Bridges. Bessie was a graduate of Bucksport High School. She was a professional cook in private homes in Castine and North East Harbor, and a caretaker for elderly people. She loved animals, the outdoors and taking nature walks in the woods. She is survived by one child, Richard W. Small and his wife, Sarah, of Bucksport; two grandchildren, Richard C. Small of Bucksport and Karen Bolstridge and husband, David, of the Bangor area; five great-grandchildren, Laura Bolstridge Farrington, Heather Bolstridge Smith, April Bolstridge, Warren Small and Cody Small; and two nieces, Charlotte and Stephanie Bridges of Bucksport. She was predeceased by a brother, Howard E. Bridges and his wife, Rosemary. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 14, at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport, with Pastor Peter Remick officiating. Spring interment at Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Bucksport.
