WASHINGTON – Caroline Mary (Vigue) Taylor, a longtime resident of Washington, peacefully passed from this earth Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011, surrounded by her loving family at her home on Nelson Ridge Road, after a short illness. Born Jan. 16, 1950, in Rockland, to Amie and Joan (Paine) Vigue, she was the fourth of seven children and was affectionately known to her family as “Sis.” She grew up on the state prison farm in South Warren, where her father was a guard and her mom homemaker. Caroline began her education in 1956 at Warren grade school and was member of the last graduating class at Warren High School, where she excelled academically and in all sports. She was an active member of her class, and chosen as class valedictorian. She attended the University of Maine, where she majored in child development. It was while at the University of Maine, Orono, that she met Pete. They fell in love and were married at St. James Catholic Church, Thomaston, Nov. 14, 1970. The early years of their marriage they lived on French Island, Old Town, later they lived out in the “boonies” in Enfield and finally settled in their first home in Milford. Caroline attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Old Town, where she became a fast and lifelong friend of Father Ray Picard. In 1974 at Father Ray’s urging Caroline and Pete made a marriage encounter retreat and soon after attended a cursillo retreat. These were life changing events in their lives. In early January 1975, Caroline prematurely gave birth to her first son, David and nine months later Becky was born. She and Pete moved to Washington in 1978, where Matthew, James and Sarah were born, all full term babies. She became the breadwinner as a dental assistance, something she loved. She excelled at putting patients at ease with her calm demeanor. During the 1979-1980 school year she and Pete began careers with National School Studios – Lifetouch – an employee owned Minnesota based school photography company. She became operations manager, photographer, troubleshooter – she did it all for Lifetouch Studios of Maine. In fact, she became so successful that she was asked to join Lifetouch Field Operations group and traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and Canada training other Lifetouch territories in company information systems. She developed and conducted training sessions at many Lifetouch national conventions. She had just retired after 25 years with Lifetouch when she became afflicted with bone cancer, which had metastasized from breast cancer she had several years prior. She loved and enjoyed her family, and her extended Lifetouch, racing and music families. Her grandchildren were her special jewels. Caroline had many special qualities, but none greater than her special gift of radiating the love she had of Jesus Christ to all she met. She is survived by her husband, Peter; her sons, David and his wife, Heidi, of Appleton, Matthew and his companion, Kathleen, of Portland and James and his companion, Heidi, of Rockland; daughters, Rebecca and her companion, Bob, of Lisbon Falls and Sarah of Washington; grandchildren, Dylan and Hannah Taylor, Joanna and Riley Turner; a son-in-law, Steven Turner; three brothers, Tony Vigue and his wife, Linda, of Standish, Timothy Vigue and his wife, Angela, of Washington and Christopher Vigue and DeeAnn of Washington; her sister, Teresa Price of Vassalboro; aunt, Mary Hunter; her sisters-in-law, Andi Vigue of Pennsylvania and Helen Vigue of Florida; many nieces and nephews; and her special friends, Becky Krebsbach and Suzy Weaver. She was predeceased by her mom and dad; her brothers, Terry and Tommy; many aunts and uncles. There will be no wake. A funeral Mass will be officiated 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, by Father Ray Picard at St. Denis Catholic Church, Route 126, Grand Army Road, North Whitefield. Interment will be at Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Augusta, where her parents are buried. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Harold Alfond Cancer Center, Augusta. Arrangements are being made by Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro.
