HARRINGTON – Richard Francis Hammond Sr., 77, a loving husband and wonderful father, passed away peacefully Jan. 12, 2011. He was the son of Herbert and Marjorie (Dorr) Hammond of Harrington. He was self-employed as a lobster fisherman, clammer and wormer for 65 years. Richard cut pulpwood for Roger Mitchell, drove an oil delivery truck for his brother, Elijha, a school bus for Harrington school district, a plow truck for George Hammond in the town of Harrington and the ambulance for Pleasant River. He enjoyed lobster-fishing competitions with his grandson, Kenneth, and in his later years, cooking for his wife, Betty. Richard is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Betty Hammond “Lovie”; a son, Richard Hammond Jr. and wife, Debra, of Holden; daughter, Debra and husband, Toodie, of Milbridge; daughter, Rose and husband, Scott Santerre, of Cherryfield; son, Charles and special friend, Linda, of Windham; son-in-law, Rick Spencer of Stetson; grandchildren, Ricky, Roxanne, Joshua, Devon, Lisa, Darric, Crystal, Kenneth, Michael, Natashia, Joshua, Breannia, Scotty, Cayla, Erika and Dylan; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, George and wife, Bea Hammond, of Machias; brother, Wayne and Alice Hammond of Harrington; sister, Elloise and husband, Doug Look, of Texas; several nephews, nieces and cousins; and special kid, Dale and wife, Ellen, of Eddington. Richard was predeceased by his parents; daughter, Nancy Hammond Spencer; grandson, Richard Francis Hammond III; and brothers, Elijha Hammond, Bernard Hammond and Arnold Hammond. Visiting hours will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14, at Harrington Baptist Church where a funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15. A graveside service will be after at Forrest Hill Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to a reception immediately after the graveside service at Harrington Veterans of Foreign Wars.
