BREWER and BANGOR – Frederick James Thurlow, 56, died Jan. 13, 2011, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Feb. 6, 1954, in Bangor, the son of Harold L. and Theresa M. (Burton) Thurlow. Fred was a graduate of Orono High School and graduated with high honors from Beals Business College, Bangor. He had been employed in bar security at numerous establishments in the greater Bangor area for many years. Fred enjoyed outings with his family and was an avid collector of automotive memorabilia and DC-3 airplanes. He was also a creative artist and a passionate reader. Fred was a volunteer at Cole Transportation Museum, where he spent more than 500 hours restoring an antique fire truck. Surviving are three brothers, Jeffrey Thurlow and his wife, Lori, of Eddington, Brian Thurlow of Bangor and Alan Thurlow of Biddeford; two sisters, Nancy Thurlow of Bucksport and Jeannie Thurlow of Orono; a special niece, Sherrie Colby and her daughter, Aiyana; other nieces and nephews; and his best friend, Ray Gustafson, who was like a brother to Fred. A memorial service will be held 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 639 Grandview Ave., Bangor.
