CLINTON – Wallace “Wally” H. LaGasse Sr. passed away Monday, Jan. 10, 2011, due to heart failure. He was born Sept. 3, 1944, in Waterville, son of the late Albe and Ersel (Robinson) LaGassse of Waterville. He was a graduate of Hermon High School. On Oct. 21, 1965, he entered the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged Oct. 20, 1967. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 14, Fairfield, serving as past commander and sergeant of arms. Wally was also active in the veteran’s community as councilor and volunteer. He was a business owner and worked in the auto industry for more than 40 years. He is survived by his three children, Christine E. Furlong of Anchorage, Alaska, Janice LaGasse of Bangor and Wallace Jr. of Spring, Texas; four grandchildren, Ashley, Bethany, Jacob and Dominic; and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Sandra Centron of Lawrence, Mass.; brothers, Albe LaGasse and Arthur LaGasse, both of Hermon; nieces and cousins. Visiting hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 16, at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main St., Fairfield, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 17. A reception will be held afterward at American Legion Post No. 14, Main Street, Fairfield. Burial will be at a later date at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta.
