MILLINOCKET – Victor A. Hanington, 80, went home to be with his Lord and master Friday, Jan. 14, 2011. He was born Feb. 4, 1930, in Bancroft, the son of Hollis A. and Muriel (Tedford) Hanington. Victor lived a full life and had many interests. He had a passion for horses, and loved many types of sports, ranging from pitching horseshoes to watching a ball game while sitting in his chair. Victor greatly enjoyed bird watching, studying about different kinds of birds and making birdhouses. He will also be remembered for his legacy of gardening and growing his award winning “squashkins.” Victor was a loyal and faithful member of East Millinocket Living Hope Nazarene Church for many years, receiving the Most Distinguished Service Award. He spent countless hours volunteering and was known as “the Candy Man” by the children. He was a staunch lifelong Republican and was extremely pleased with the results of the November elections, in Maine especially. Victor loved working with the public and was a co-owner of the former P & H Auto, Inc., Millinocket, for more than 25 years. Above all, Victor had a never ending love for his wife and family, and especially enjoyed teasing, taunting and loving his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joan M. (Crawford) Hanington of Millinocket; four daughters, Vicki and James Williams of Bangor, Debbi Perkins and her husband, Joseph, of Millinocket, Jaynie and her husband, Harold Higgins Jr., of Lincoln and Alison Perrin of Island Falls and Tom Perrin of Sherman; 12 grandchildren, Geneva-Beth Nice and her husband, Tim, Haleigh Rice and her husband, Tony, Jennifer Mewes, Shauna Coffin and her husband, Daniel, Bethany Tucker and her husband, Joshua, Samantha Mitchell and her husband, Benjamin, Avril and Briana Williams, James Williams Jr., Sara Perkins, Salua Hellal and Phil Bofia; 12 great-grandchildren, Tristin, Ellie and Jillian Mewes, Brock Nice, Lily Knowlton, Tyler and Delaney Rice, Tucker Mitchell, Addison Tucker, Sincere Johnson, Nicole Frost and Alyssa Bofia; a special part of his family, Doug and Debbie Kranich and their children, Greg, Lisa and Amanda, and grandchildren, Haley, Brooklyn and Emma; two sisters, Mildred Faulkner of Danforth and Joyce Plain of Las Vegas; five brothers, Willard and Douglas of Wytopitlock, Harvey of Danforth, Taylor of Houlton and Wilfred of Bancroft; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Victor will also be missed by his church family; as well as a special friend, Bruce Leavitt of Millinocket. In addition to his parents, Victor was predeceased by a sister, Fayelene Hanington; a brother, Hollis Hanington Jr.; and four nephews, Jay, Jamie and Jody Hanington, and Galen McPherson. Friends are invited to visit with the family 2:30-4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 16, at East Millinocket Living Hope of the Nazarene Church, 1 Palm St., East Millinocket, with a celebration of his life beginning 4 p.m. with the Rev. David Shaw, pastor, officiating.
