MECHANIC FALLS – Marilyn J. Hamel, 76, passed away Jan. 15, 2011, at Hospice House, Auburn. She was born the daughter and only child of John and Irene Parker in Moncton, New Brunswick. She attended Brownville Junction schools, graduating as salutatorian in 1952. She attended Eastern Maine General Hospital School of Nursing Program for one year and later worked as a teacher’s aide at Elm Street School, Mechanic Falls, from 1972 to 2003. It can truly be said of Marilyn that she was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She had made her home in Mechanic Falls since 1959 and was a dedicated member of Hosanna New Testament Church, Welchville, since 1978. During her final battle with illness, she has been courageous and faith-filled. Her family and friends have learned so much from her example in the face of many challenges. She is survived by her daughters, Vickie Swanson and her husband, John, and Kimberly Nickey and her husband, Steve; three granddaughters, Laurel Paladino, Kirsten and Keanne Petrie; a grandson, Adam Paladino and his wife, Michelle; and two great-grandsons, Samuel and Jakob Paladino. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, at Hosanna New Testament Church. A luncheon will be held afterward at the church.
