In turning down an invitation to attend its annual Martin Luther King events in Maine, the governor last week said the NAACP — the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People — was a special interest group.
Was he right in labeling the group this way? Should he be applauded for refusing to pander to and give ear to a group with a narrow focus? Will he treat other interest groups — the Chamber of Commerce, various business advocacy groups — the same way? What does this snub say about the governor, and Maine?
