GARLAND – Emil L. Lucas, 90, passed away Monday, Jan. 24, 2011, surrounded by his loving family at his home. He was born July 28, 1920, in Bridgeport, Conn., the son of John and Mary (Bizak) Lukacs. He was a former resident of Newtown, Conn., for more than 30 years, before retiring to Maine. Emil proudly served his country in World War II in the U.S. Army 86th Infantry, Blackhawks, in Belgium and the Philippines. After an active career in credit management, Emil, an avid gardener, pursued his interest and at age 82 opened Grampa’s Green House at Maple Shade Farm, Garland. He is survived by his children, Linda Clewley and her husband, Rob, of Garland, Bob Lucas and his friend, Holly Bryer, of Millerton, N.Y., Jack Lucas and his wife, Debra, of Brookfield, Conn., Wayne Lucas of Newtown, Conn., and Kate Stiles and her husband, Jeff, of Benton, Tenn.; 17 grandchildren, including Justin Smith and his wife, Sherron, of Rochester, N.H., Raechel Clewley of Garland and Elizabeth Clewley of Washington, D.C.; and 21 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Emil was predeceased by his loving wife of 57 years, Elenore (Costigan) Lucas; and 11 siblings. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, St. Paul the Apostle Parish, 768 Ohio St., Bangor.
