LAMOINE – Daniel Iver Gommel, 71, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011. He was born March 23, 1939, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of Teresa Hallberg and Ernest Gommel.

After growing up in Philadelphia, he started his own marine, industrial and truck engine rebuilding business. Later he taught engine rebuilding at Lincoln Tech in New Jersey, then worked for Mercedes Benz training truck mechanics. He came to Ellsworth in 1982, where he was employed as fleet manager of Maine Shellfish Co. for 23 years. He enjoyed camping trips at Baxter State Park, riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and collecting Aladdin lamps.

Daniel will be remembered by his wife, Anne Lambertson Gommel; his son, Daniel of Winston-Salem, N.C.; his three daughters, Hayley of Lamoine, Jean Reimold and her husband, George, of Meadowbrook, Pa., and Joanne Zingaro and her husband, Joe, of New Hope, Pa.; a sister, Doris Barlow and her husband, Hank, of Philadelphia; nieces, Rebecca and Jessica Barlow; and grandchildren, Sarah and Alison Zingaro, and Alex and Nicholas Reimold.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 4, at Lamoine Baptist Church, 24 Lamoine Beach Road, Lamoine, with a reception afterwards.
