WHITING – Judy Barker Stevens, 54, mother, sister, cousin, neighbor and friend, passed away unexpectedly Friday, Jan. 28, 2011, at her home. She was born May 26, 1956, in Lubec, daughter of the late Gertrude and Harry Barker.

She was a graduate of Lubec High School, Class of 1974, then attended and graduated from Westbrook College as a dental assistant. Judy was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served most of her tour of duty in Guam. She was a member of American Legion Stuart Green Post No. 65, Lubec, and at the time of her death the owner and operator of Whiting Store.

Known for her warm, friendly smile, community interest and vibrant personality, Judy will be greatly missed by all. Everyone who knew Judy couldn’t help but know how very much she loved her two sons, Cale and Sam Stevens, who survive her. She is also survived by two stepchildren, Danielle and Jeffrey Stevens; a sister, Cathy Barker; and a brother, Dennis Barker. Being a member of a very large family, she also leaves behind several aunts and many well loved cousins.

A service celebrating Judy’s life will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, at Three Angels Church, Route 1, Whiting. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made in memory of Judy to Cobscook Community Learning Center or a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are in care of McClure Family Funeral Services, Machias and Lubec.
