DEDHAM – John R. Peters, 77, died Feb. 8, 2011, surrounded by family and friends at his home. He was born June 9, 1933, in Weston, son of Robert and Helen (Gilpatrick) Peters.

John served in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee. He worked in construction all his life, first for H.E. Sargent for many years and also Joe Lynch Construction, as well as a number of other construction companies. John owned and operated Country Squire for nine years and also built, owned and operated Peaks Hill Lodge. He also owned his own construction business, Peters Construction, and delivered mail for the U.S. Postal Service for a few years. John was a member of Rising Sun Lodge AF & AM, Orland, and Ralph J. Pollard Lodge AF & AM, Orrington. He also was a member of Dedham Volunteer Fire Department, and was instrumental in getting the Dedham baseball field built.

John is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Olive (McReavy) Peters of Dedham; three sons and their wives, Wayne Jamieson and Deborah of Dedham, Jerry Jamieson and Donna of Brewer, and Scott Peters and Beth of Falmouth; one brother, Robert Peters and his wife, Norma, of Standish; 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Bernard; and his sister, Jean King.

Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, at Brookings-Smith, Brewer Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 11, with the Rev. Dana Douglass, pastor of Dedham Congregational Church, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments immediately after the service at Peaks Hill Lodge, Dedham.
