SURRY – Anna Barbara Lincoln, 84, died Nov. 6, 2010, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Jan. 6, 1926, in Gillette, Wyo., daughter of Ephram Harvey and Zephyr (Miller) Testerman.
Anna lived a long and happy life. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She spent her childhood on the wide-open range in Wyoming and often spoke of the open sky and endless country. As a preteen she moved to the Bay area of California, where she witnessed the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge, which she and her family walked across on the day it opened. Anna attended school and graduated from high school in the Bay area of California. As a young woman she worked for the Department of the Navy, where she met and fell in love with, and married Philip R. Lincoln, a young sailor from Dennysville. They moved east via troop train to Boston in 1945, and upon Philip’s discharge from the Coast Guard, moved to Maine in 1946 and were welcomed by family. Philip went to work as a state trooper and he and Anna settled in Mount Vernon, where Anna “Barb” made and maintained many wonderful friendships during the years. It was during those years in Mount Vernon that she gave birth to their four children, one girl and three boys. She was a member of Vernon Valley Order of the Eastern Star and also served on Mount Vernon School Board. She, Philip and their four children moved to Holden in 1963, where they lived until 1968. After Philip’s career in law enforcement, they moved from Holden to Newington, Conn., and in 1981 moved to Bloomfield, Conn. Anna considered those some of her happiest years. While there she worked for Wilcox Dental Laboratory as a technician until 1985. She also made many friends and continued to keep in contact with them after she and Philip retired and returned to Maine in 1985. Anna and Philip settled in Surry on the riverfront, where they lived happily amongst friends. Throughout the years, they hosted many family reunions, visits from their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as friends and family from around the U.S. During those years, they traveled with law enforcement and Anah Shrine visiting friends and family. Anna “Barb” was an amazing woman and was loved by everyone who knew her. She touched the hearts and souls of all those around her. She did not let adversity stand between her and a full life. She and Phil instilled in their children a love for life, a love for the out of doors and a sense of wonder and unconditional love. A woman who was a great inspiration – there could never be another her. She will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her four children, Marcia Zephyr, Russell Foster and wife, Rebecca, Mark Whitney and wife, Peggy, and Nels Thomas and wife, Debbie; grandchildren, Tanya, Albert, Michelle, Heather, Aaron, Jaime, Jason, Anna Nichole, Kelli, Brad, Drew and Wes; 20 great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, “Sister Sue” Agnes Ellen Gilbert of Osage, Iowa. Anna was predeceased by her parents; her parents-in-law; and her beloved husband of 63 years, Philip, Jan. 25, 2009.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Gifts in Anna’s memory may be made to Mary Dow Cancer Center, 50 Union St., Ellsworth, ME 04605 or Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource, P.O. Box 322, Ellsworth, ME 04605. Condolences may be expressed at
