BREMEN – Frederick J. Schwink, 75, passed away Feb. 14, 2011, at home, after a long illness. He was born May 27, 1935, in Palmyra, N.J.

He graduated from Palmyra (N.J.) High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea after the war. Upon returning to the states, he graduated from the pulp and paper program at the University of Maine, Orono. He worked as a river driver and logger for Great Northern Paper Co., Millinocket. He settled in Jay, where he worked for International Paper Co. for 27 years, and served a term as town selectman. He continued to work as a land surveyor and forester in the mid-coast Maine

area until his retirement. Fred was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, boating, flying his small plane and serving in the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He enjoyed spending time with his wife at their residence in Medford, N.J., and volunteering his time and skills at Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge, Medford, N.J.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Woodford of Medford, N.J.; a daughter, Heidi Merrow and husband, Scott, of Derry, N.H.; his son, Eric Schwink and wife, Joanna Ozonek, and grandson, Aleksander, of Golden, Colo.; stepson, Jeff Rayser and wife, Natalie, of Ocala, Fla.; a brother, Thomas Schwink of Indianola, Iowa; many nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, at Bremen Union Church, 533 Waldoboro Road, Route 32, Bremen.
