CASTINE – Robert J. Recco, 82, died Feb. 15, 2011, in Bangor, after a brief illness. He was born Aug. 22, 1928, in Concord, Mass., one of five children of Michael and Pauline Recco.
Robert grew up and attended school in Concord, Mass., and Lowell, Mass. After graduation he enlisted in the Army, spending many of his years overseas. He was then assigned to the White House, traveling with several different presidents and first ladies, retiring after 25 years. Robert went to work for secret service in charge of special officers until 1993 when he retired again. After retirement he and his wife, Linda, moved to Castine to enjoy the quiet rural life.
He was predeceased by his mother-in-law, Dorothy Thomas; daughter, Christie Ann Recco; one sister, Florence Mary Ammendolia; and two brothers, Albert and Chicky Recco. Surviving are his wife, Linda (Thomas) Recco of Castine; three children, Katherine and husband, Lawrence Damico, of Penn Laird, Va., David and wife, Dianne Recco, of Springfield, Va., and Linda and husband, Mark Storm, of Olney, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Shaun Recco, Darren and wife, Catherine Recco, Jessica Recco, Lisa and husband, Brian Long, Kimberly and husband, William Constable, Jamie and husband, Robert Gray, and Brandon and wife, Stacy Recco; 11 great-grandchildren, Taryn and Mackenzie Recco, Kaylee, Rylee and Cadyn Recco, Ava and Parker Constable, Ayden and Lilly Long, Braylen Recco, and Amiya Gray; his brother, Johnny Recco of Lowell, Mass.; and dear friends, Carroll and Martin Johnson of Penobscot, Marion Simmons and Hazel Hunt of Sedgwick, Mike and Debbie Dyer, Shirley LeBlanc and Philip and Rose Small of Blue Hill.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, at Blue Hill Congregational Church. Interment will be in the spring at Castine Cemetery. Cremation arrangements by Cremation Basics, Inc., Bangor.
