OLD TOWN – Stella Mae Emery, 74, died Feb. 15, 2011, surrounded by her loving family. Stella was born Sept. 15, 1936, in Stillwater, daughter of Quinton and Phyllis (Storeman) Darling.

Stella graduated from Old Town High School in 1954. She held a variety of jobs including seamstress, caregiver and a receptionist at a doctor’s office, but her primary position had always been as a homemaker. Stella enjoyed quilting, crocheting and playing cribbage. She was an excellent cook and a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend. Stella recently left her many dear friends at Marsh Island Apartments, Old Town, to move in with her daughter, Sonya. Sonya was able to provide loving and compassionate care for her mother while she was in her home.

Stella is survived by four children, Phyllis Monroe and her partner, Mary Rash, of Longmont, Colo., Timothy Evans and his wife, Lori, of Douglasville, Pa., Tina Wisse of Longmont, Colo., and Sonya Michaud and her husband, Ron, of Eddington; 15 grandchildren, Robbie, Jessica and Hunter Wisse of Longmont, Colo., Christopher Monroe of Longmont, Colo., Jack, Timothy, Matthew and Brittney Evans of Douglasville, Pa., Bruce Evans of Boca Raton, Fla., Autumn, Kylie and Emily of Eddington, Jacob of Toms River, N.J., Andrea Cordi of Georgia and Steven Matey of Bradley; three great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Ann Doiron of Old Town; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Stella was predeceased by her first husband, Dale Giberson of Point Pleasant, N.J.; her second husband, Warren Emery of Dover-Foxcroft; two daughters, Brenda Matey-Beaver of Old Town and Diana Roth of Pottstown, Pa.; grandson, Benjamin Rivera of Toms River, N.J.; and three brothers, Bobby and Wesley Darling of Old Town and Bruce Darling of Passadumkeag.

Family and friends are invited to call 4-6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town. As to Stella’s wishes, there will be no formal services.
