HOLDEN – Harold E. Tate, 82, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011, at Maine Veterans Home. He was born March 22, 1928, in Holden, the son of Warren and Sadie (Bell) Tate.

Harold was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II serving on the USS Leyte and enjoyed a 32-year career as a glazier at Soule Glass Co. He enjoyed many hobbies, including snowmobiling, cribbage, fishing, hunting, horseshoes, playing cards, and watching stockcar races, Westerns and Red Skelton movies. Harold was an avid candlepin bowler and Red Sox fan. He had a great love of animals, spoiling all his pets. Harold will be remembered as a maker of picture clocks, which he sold at Searsport Flea Market, and the best dad and grandfather.

Harold is survived by his son, Dennis H. Tate and his wife, Lorraine, of Holden; daughter, Sandee L. Barber of Brewer; grandson, Alex T. Barber of Brewer; stepgranddaughter, Jessica Howard of Holden; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Harold was predeceased by a brother, Nelson W. Tate; and sisters, Lillian Roach and Dorothy Brown.

Harold’s family thanks the staff of Maine Veterans Home for all their love and friendship throughout Harold’s care.

A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, at Brookings-Smith, Brewer Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, with Pastor Carl Schreiber, of East Orrington Congregational Church, officiating.
