HOLDEN – Barbara Ellen (Crocker) Goodrich, 90, of Holden and Largo, Fla., passed away Feb. 18, 2011, at her home. She was born July 24, 1920, in Fort Kent, daughter of the late Richard F. and Matilda W. (Moholland) Crocker.
She graduated from Madawaska Training School in 1938 and the University of Maine, Orono, in 1940. She taught school in Benton for one year before marrying Maison K. Goodrich, in 1941. After her husband’s death in 1953, she returned to teaching at Community High School, Fort Kent, where she taught English and speech until after the death of a sister and her parents. In 1964, she moved her family to Brewer and taught English at Brewer High School where, after becoming chairperson of the English department, she remained until her retirement in 1982. In the fall of 1982, she began wintering in Largo, Fla., where she enjoyed the warmer seasons. She was a member of Holden Congregational Church, Chi Omega sorority, a 50-year member of Order of the Eastern Star No. 120 and No. 198, as well as Maine Teachers Association.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Maison K. Goodrich, in 1953; her sister, Anne M. Crocker, in 1962; her brother, Richard F. Crocker Jr., in 1992; and her son, Stephen L. Goodrich, in 1999. Survivors include her daughter, M. Bonita (Goodrich) Hutton and her husband, Edward, of New Hampshire; and her sons, Maison “Pepper” K. Goodrich and his wife, Rosa, and Richard M. Goodrich, all of Holden. She was a grandmother to Jennifer A. (Goodrich) Wing and her husband, Troy, of Ellsworth, Sheryl (Goodrich) Carney and husband, John, of Carmel, and Troy A. Goodrich and his wife, Tracy, of Holden; as well as a great-grandmother to Christopher Linscott, Brandon Carney, Jordan Goodrich and Kyle Goodrich. She also has one sister, Hope C. Towle; a dear niece, Susan L. Collins, both of Swanton, Vt.; two great-nieces, two great-great-nieces and two great-great-nephews. In addition, Barbara leaves behind many dear friends in Maine and Florida.
Family and friends may visit 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State St., Brewer, where a service honoring and celebrating her life will be held 7 p.m. as the visitation concludes.
