VINALHAVEN – Lawrence Wyman “Cy” Davidson, 71, passed away peacefully Feb. 22, 2011, surrounded by his loving family at his island home, “On the Rocks.” Born Sept. 6, 1939, on Vinalhaven, he was the only child of Alexander and Elizabeth Davidson.
Cy was educated locally and graduated from Vinalhaven High School in 1958. In 1963 Cy married Barbara White on Vinalhaven. Together they made their home on the island and raised three children. For 21 years Cy served as fire chief on the island and also as a special officer. He was a master of Moses Webster Lodge and longtime member of the Lions Club. Cy was a robust athlete, catching for the well-known Vinalhaven Chiefs in the late 1950s. His love of baseball lives on in his family as well as those he coached on the Vinalhaven High School baseball team. Cy was a man of many talents who enjoyed a diverse professional life. He worked as head of maintenance for the Outward Bound School on Hurricane Island when it was founded in the 1960s, and in following years did electrical, plumbing and carpentry work on Vinalhaven. On April 8, 1987, Cy and Barb opened their own grocery store, Carver’s Harbor Market. For the past 24 years they have operated the island store, making many lasting friendships along the way. Family members and friends will always remember Cy for his big smile, outgoing personality, humor and friendliness.
He is survived by his wife, Barb; son, Raymond “Hank” and wife, Tina Davidson; daughter, Kristine Davidson; daughter, Kimberly and husband, Christopher Radley; and eight adoring grandchildren,

The family thanks Jennifer Desmond, Larry Hill and Damariscotta Dialysis Unit for their excellent care; Kevin Waters and the staff of Penobscot Air for numerous trips across the Bay; extraordinary friend, Ann Farley; and the very special community of Vinalhaven for their love and support.
