PRESQUE ISLE – Arthur S. Rand, 86, went home to be with his Lord Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011, after passing away peacefully at his residence. He was born Feb. 15, 1925, in Presque Isle, the son of Charles and Leversa (Dean) Rand.
Arthur served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and his ship was the first ship to enter Tokyo Bay. Shortly after his discharge he married Rowena Barnes and they would enjoy almost 65 years together. Arthur worked for Parker K. Bailey, Vahlsing’s and McCains, and he owned and operated Halfway Market on the Caribou Road. He enjoyed doing crafts and building things with Rowena. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
In addition to his wife, Rowena, he is survived by two daughters, Gayla Sprague and a special friend, Rodney Mills, of Presque Isle and Barbara Bubar and her husband, Fred, of Fort Fairfield; five grandchildren, Jody Bubar, Julie McEwen and her husband, Evan, Nick Bubar and his wife, Angie, Misty Miranda and fiance, Rino Marquis, and Dustin Sprague and his wife, Missy; eight great-grandchildren, Darion, Judd, Cameron, Sydney, Tia, Trevor, Kyler and Lexi; as well as nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Richard, Arnold and Lindly Sr.; and a sister, Phyllis Rand.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, with Pastor Larry Palmer officiating. Friends may call noon until the time of service Tuesday at the funeral home, where a reception will be held in the reception hall after the service.
