EAST MILLINOCKET – Allen W. Lightbody, 76, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011, at a Millinocket hospital, after a long illness. He was born Aug. 31, 1934, in Carrabasset, the son of Arthur and Margaret (Stevens) Lightbody.
Most recently Allen was caretaker at Oak Park Manor, East Millinocket. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he was proud to have been actively involved in the planning and erecting of the new veterans memorial in East Millinocket. Allen was well known around East Millinocket and was always willing to help anyone – he never said no.
Allen is survived by two sisters, Marjorie Bearor of Madison and Lillian Turcotte of East Millinocket; four children, Halvor Magnus of Ripley, Dolores Gamble and her husband, Wayne, of Levant, Karen Francis and her husband, Simon, of Corinth and Sharen Wells and her husband, Keith, of Pittsfield; 17 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Allen will also be missed by three close friends, Larry, Tom and Ralph; as well as two friends from childhood, Raymond and Billy. In addition to his parents, Allen was predeceased by his siblings, Ainslie Lightbody, Mary Berry, Walter Lightbody and Sadie Forbus; and his former wife, Colleen.
At Allen’s request, there will be no visiting hours. Graveside services will be held in the summer at Detroit Village Cemetery, Detroit.
