HAMPDEN – Christena (Miller) Libby, 86, passed away March 1, 2011, at a Brewer health care facility. She was born June 24, 1924, in Hampden, daughter of the late Ernest and Louise (Stanley) Miller.
Chris lived most of her life in Hampden and was past matron of the former Star in the East Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, Hampden. Christena loved to cook and feed people. She prepared many dinners for the Star, Masonic Lodge and the Shrine. She was manager and pastry chef at Downeast School, Bangor, for 24 years. She loved being with her family and going to camp at Schoodic Lake. Chris will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
Christena was predeceased by her beloved husband of 64 years, Donald E. Libby, in 2008; her daughter, Gale Jean Libby Buckingham, in 1995; and two brothers, Clarence “Bub” Miller and Galen Miller. She is survived by her son, Richard E. “Rick” Libby of Orono; granddaughter, Alicia Dannemann of Hampden; brother-in-law, Gerald Libby and wife, Chloe, of Carmel; two sisters-in-law, Bernadine “Bea” Miller of Indiana and Carroll Miller of Kenduskeag; nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, March 5, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, with the Rev. Dick Woehr officiating. Family and friends may visit noon until the time of service. Interment will be in the spring in the family lot at Lakeview Cemetery, Hampden.
