MILLINOCKET – Pauline M. Delahanty, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away Feb. 28, 2011, in Millinocket. Mrs. Delahanty was born Pauline Marie Kavanaugh, March 20, 1925, in Bristol, Conn., to George T. and Marguerite F. (Wright) Kavanaugh.
She grew up in Lewiston and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1943. After attending business school she was employed as secretary to the principal at Jordan School, Lewiston. She married Wallace Michael Delahanty Sept. 15, 1951, at St. Joseph’s Church, Lewiston. They moved to Millinocket in 1952, at which time she worked briefly as a secretary to the principal of Stearns High School before starting a family. Pauline and Wally ran the first municipal credit union in Millinocket from 1963 to 1966. After spending many years as a stay-at-home mom, she went to work in the business office of Millinocket Regional Hospital. Retiring in 1988, Pauline remained active in the community and as a communicant of St. Martin of Tours Church. She belonged to and held office at various times with the Daughters of Isabella and AARP.
Pauline’s life, love and faith will be forever remembered and cherished by her children and their spouses, Maureen (Delahanty) Calder and her husband, David, Kathleen (Delahanty) Parlin and her husband, Peter, Peggy Delahanty Jamieson, Michael Delahanty and his wife, Donna, Patrick Delahanty and his wife, Paula, Mary Kay Delahanty Hamel, and Dan Delahanty and his wife, Linda; her grandchildren, Ryan Dhuy and his wife, Jessica, Karen Dhuy, Sarah and Greg Parlin, Stephen Jamieson and his wife, Molly, Sean, Peter and Matthew Jamieson, Brady Delahanty, Tim Delahanty and his wife, Angie, Colleen Delahanty and her fiance, Rick Petty, Mike Delahanty, Brian, Michaela and Nick Hamel, Michael and Meghan Delahanty; and her great-grandchildren, Destinee Dhuy and Aidan Jamieson. She also leaves several nieces, nephews, godchildren and many dear friends, all of whom were very special to her. We take comfort in knowing that she now rests, renewed in spirit, with her husband, Wally, who predeceased her in 1978; and her granddaughter, Cailey Delahanty, who predeceased her in 2001. She was also predeceased by her parents; her sister and brother-in-law, Maureen (Kavanaugh) and Alfred Bernier; and a brother, David Wright Kavanaugh. Pauline’s family extends a heartfelt thanks to all those who have helped make her final days as comfortable and peaceful as possible, especially hospice nurse and friend, Debbie Kranich; home health aide, Donna Graham; volunteer, Dick Hepworth; social worker, Linda Boyce; and the many neighbors and friends who have given comfort to Pauline and her family. Thank-you also to Donna Duffy, Marion Bisson and Diane Terrio for their kind and special attention to Mom.
At Pauline’s request, there will be no visiting hours. A funeral service will take place 1 p.m. Friday, March 4, at St. Martin of Tours Church, Christ the Divine Mercy Parish, 19 Colby St., Millinocket.
