LEWISTON – Harry B. Leslie, 89, formerly of Brewer, went home to be with the Lord Monday, Feb. 28, 2011, at Central Maine Medical Center, Lewiston. He was born Aug. 19, 1921, in Robbinston, the son of Boynton and Mary (Bugbee) Laslie.
Mr. Leslie was married to the late Mary (Linnell) Leslie for more than 60 years when she passed on several years ago. A graduate of Pembroke High School, he served in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1941 to 1945, earning sergeant’s stripes and serving most of his time in Bakersfield, Calif. After the war, Mr. Leslie owned The Family Store, Pembroke, for several years, then he was a life insurance underwriter, and several years was named to the million dollar club, living in Scarborough and Brewer. The last few years he lived in assisted-living facilities in Portland and Auburn. He had been an active member of Kiwanis International and the Lions Club in Bangor-Brewer and Eastern Maine Snowmobile Club, Holden. He also was a member of the American Legion and Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine. An avid fisherman and baseball lover, in the 1960s Mr. Leslie managed and pitched for the Pembroke Town Team, managed the Bangor Town Team and organized the Bangor-Brewer All-Stars, consisting of many of the best adult ballplayers in the area.
He is survived by two sons, David S. Leslie of Scarborough and Mark A. Leslie and his wife, Loy, of Monmouth; four grandsons, Jon and his wife, Miriam, of Sweden, Scott and his wife, Suzanne, of Winchester, Mass., Richard and his wife, Tara, of Lewiston and Darek and his wife, Emma, of Salem, Mass.; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Page of Sebec and Florida, and Rae Sawyer of Pembroke; several nephews and nieces. In addition to his wife, Mr. Leslie was predeceased by a sister, Frances Horodysky of Cumberland; and daughter-in-law, Pamela Leslie of Scarborough.
