BUCKSPORT – Joseph H. Sheehan, 83, died March 1, 2011, at Maine Veterans Home, Bangor, after a prolonged illness. He was born Sept. 11, 1927, in Bristol, Conn., the second son of Samuel and Irene Sheehan.

He worked 46 years at the St.Regis/Champion paper mill in Bucksport. For a short while he also owned a taxi cab company. Joe proudly served our country during World War II and the Korean War. He was a communicant of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Bucksport, as well as a fourth degree knight with Knights of Columbus. Joe was a member of American Legion Post No. 93, Bucksport.

Joseph is survived by six children and their spouses, Nancy and Arnold Burgess of Dedham, Kathryn and Les Eadie of Brewer, Delores and Gerald Giles of Bucksport, Marie and Timothy Bernard of Orland, Cheryl Simpson of Bangor, and Joseph Jr. and Carol Sheehan of Bucksport; grandchildren, Jeremy West and fiancee, Leslie, Warren Giles, Todd Burgess, Hanna, Tisha and Brad Kuchta, Lee and Brooke Eadie, Jenni and Jason Paquette, Timothy and Danny Bernard, Anna Bernard and Michael, Rosie Simpson and fiance, Jason, Janna Simpson and fiance, Jamie, and Brian Sheehan; great-grandchildren, Ashleigh, Mandi, Xander, Makenzie, Michael, Scott, Brendan and Jayden; siblings, T. Colin Sheehan and Lou, Irene Denault, Charles and Deanne Sheehan, and Barbara O’Connor; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Darlene and Mahlon Bickford, Leslie White, Don Sanders and Sandy White; many nieces and nephews. Joseph also left behind a dear friend, Father Jack O’Hara. Joe was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Delores, in March 2009; brothers, Bill and Sam; and sister, Pauline.

Visitation will be held 2-4 p.m. Thursday, March 3, at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, March 4, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Burial for Joe and Delores will be in the spring at Maine Veterans Cemetery, Augusta. Memorial donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Furnace Fund, P.O. Box S, Bucksport, ME 04416-1219.
