FORT FAIRFIELD – Kenneth L. Hayes Jr., 57, husband of Lori A. (Thibodeau) Hayes, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon, March 1, 2011, at his residence. He was born Feb. 12, 1954, in Presque Isle, son of Kenneth L. Sr. and Jean (Dempster) Hayes.
He was a graduate of Presque Isle High School, Class of 1974, and proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1977 to 1993, stationed in several areas including Nullis Air Force Base in Nevada and Loring Air Force Base, Limestone. He was employed by McGillan, Inc., Fort Fairfield, for several years and was a member of Fort Fairfield Snowmobile Club and Fort Fairfield Fish and Game Club. Ken will be remembered as a wonderful son, grandson, husband, father, grandfather, nephew and friend to all. He was known as one who never asked for help, but was always helping others in need.
He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Harry and Ophelia Dempster; paternal grandparents, Warren and Ethel Hayes; and his stepmother, Lena Hayes. He is survived by his wife of eight years, Lori A. Hayes of Fort Fairfield; one son, Kenneth L. Hayes III and his wife, Deanna, of Springfield, Mass.; two daughters, Danielle M. Morris and her husband, Rob, of Schenectady, N.Y., and Katilyn L.J. Hayes of Presque Isle; his father, Kenneth L. Hayes Sr. of Stanley, New Brunswick; his mother, Jean Stubbs of Presque Isle; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda and Hazen Sewell of Andersonville, New Brunswick, and Judy and Dan Beals of Troy, Ill.; five grandchildren, Noah, Kaley and Hannah Hayes, Myranda and Ryley Morris; mother-in-law, Joanne Strid of New Sweden; several nieces and nephews, numerous cousins, aunts, uncles and extended family members.
Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Saturday, March 5, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, where a funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, March 6, with Pastor Darren Bonville officiating. Spring interment with military honors will take place at Northern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Caribou. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held immediately after the funeral service at Veterans of Foreign Wars Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in memory of Ken to Central Aroostook Humane Society, 26 Cross St., Presque Isle, ME 04769. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
