MACHIAS and LINCOLN – Alfred Henry Paradis, 97, passed away March 7, 2011, at a Brewer health care facility. He was born July 8, 1913, in Lincoln, the eldest son of Paul and Grace (Bishop) Paradis.

Alfred was a farmer and also worked at Lincoln Pulp & Paper as a millwright. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946. He was sent to France during World War II, where he worked in the medical department and in translation, speaking fluent French at that time.

He was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Ella (Hobbs) Nelson Paradis; his stepson, Cecil Nelson Jr.; his stepdaughter, Patricia Nelson Fogg; and by his brothers and sister, Edward, Thomas and Mary. He is survived by his son, Richard Alfred and his wife, Susan, of Machias; two grandsons, Andrew and his wife, Angela, of Frankfort and Thomas and his wife, Donya, of Waterville; two great-grandsons, Ethan and Elijah; his nieces and nephews, Albert, Cecil, Pearl, Sandra, Tom and Phillip; many stepgrandchildren and great-stepgrandchildren.

Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Myles Cyr officiating. Spring interment will be at Lincoln Cemetery. Those who wish may sign an online register and leave written condolences at
