ST. ANDREWS, New Brunswick – Leo Edward “Andy” Andrews, husband of the late Freda Jeanette (Tewksbury) Andrews, passed away Friday, March 4, 2011, at Charlotte County Hospital. He was born in Princeton, son of the late Harley C. and Elmira (Decker) Andrews.
Leo served as a U.S. Marine in World War II, engaging in several battles throughout the Pacific. He served and was the youngest master sergeant in the U.S. Air Force; he was stationed in Maine, Massachusetts, Hawaii, California and New York. He proudly displayed his certificate confirming that he broke the sound barrier in a F100 while flying with Chuck Yeager. He received a business degree from Husson College. In 1966 he retired from the Air Force and moved to St. Andrews, New Brunswick.
Leo is survived by twin sons, James and Margaret of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Jerome and Jennie of Deer Island; daughters, Denise King and Jim, and Gaye Cail and Jim, all of Fredericton, New Brunswick; son, David Chapin and Eileen of Whitby, Ontario; 10 grandchildren, Cliff, Andre, Kristen, Jason, Angela, Sherry, Mark, Adrienne, Trish and Adele; several great-grandchildren; one brother, Merle of Princeton; several cousins, nieces and nephews. Leo was predeceased by his wife, Freda, in 2004; and several brothers and sisters.
By Leo’s request, there will be no visitation, however friends are invited to attend a memorial service in celebration of his life 1 p.m. Saturday, March 12, at All Saints Anglican Church, 77 King St., St. Andrews, New Brunswick, with Canon John Matheson officiating. A reception will be immediately after in the church hall. For those who wish, donations may be made to Charlotte County Cancer Society or New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation.
