VAN BUREN – Francoise L. Cyr, 64, died March 8, 2011, with her children by her side at Quarry Hill healthcare facility, Camden, after a brief illness. She was born Oct. 31, 1946, in Van Buren, daughter of Irenee and Irene (Pelletier) Lang.

Francoise was a 1965 graduate of Van Buren District High School and was employed as a medical assistant for William G. Chan, M.D., in Van Buren for 30 years. She most recently worked as a decorating consultant for Plourde Furniture Co., Caribou. Her involvement in the community was vast and far-reaching. She was the president of Gateway Square Dance Club, secretary of Professional and Business Women’s Club, secretary of Van Buren Chamber of Commerce, member of Caribou Choral Society for five years, and a member of board of directors for Northern Aroostook Alternatives. In her parish at St. Peter Chanel, she served as chairman of Worship & Spirituality Commission, secretary and vice-president of the Parish Counsel, a church lector for 30 years, Liturgical Music Program director for Cantors 15 years, Lead Cantor for 20 years, a member of St. Bruno Choral Society for 22 years, and served as secretary of Church Renovation Committee. Fran was a certified Miss Maine Pageant judge, judging many pageants in Canada and the USA, and a professional classical singer, performing at many concerts and other public appearances. She was the director of the Miss Van Buren Pageant and appeared many times as mistress of ceremonies at the pageants. The loves of her life were her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by one daughter, Danielle Morrell and husband, James, of Atlanta; two sons, Matthew Cyr and wife, Kim, of Saco and Thomas Cyr and wife, Tracy, of Rockport; one brother, Jean Long of Hartland; three sisters, Georgette Tardif and husband, Patrick, of Calgary, Alberta, Marie Paule Plourde of Grapevine, Texas, and Cecile Doucette and husband, Alphy, of Hamlin; and six grandchildren, Jacob and Renee Morrell, Nicole, Elise, Emma and Sophie Cyr. In addition to her parents, Francoise was predeceased by her husband, Daniel F. Cyr, in 1994; and an infant sister, Claudia, in 1951.

Relatives and friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday and 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday at Ouellette-Thibault Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church with Father Walter Gaudreau, S.M., celebrant. Spring interment will be at the parish cemetery.
