MARSHFIELD – Joan Marie Getchell, 62, died March 8, 2011, after a short battle with cancer. She was born June 13, 1948, in Machias, the daughter of Raymond and Abbie (Reynolds) Getchell.
Joan was a 1966 graduate of Machias High School and received her bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Maine at Machias in 1983. She had worked at the University of Maine at Machias since 1969. Joan was a member of Machias Chapter No. 83 Order of the Eastern Star.
She was predeceased by her father, Raymond Getchell, who died in 2008. Joan is survived by two sisters, Barbara McKinley and husband, James, of Acton and Alison Savard and husband, Jean, of East Machias; two special nieces, Jennifer Savard-Johnson and husband, John, of Monmouth and Marie Savard of East Machias; and two special nephews, Richard and Tyler Johnson, who will miss their auntie. She also leaves two aunts and many cousins.
At Joan’s request, there will be no calling hours or funeral.
A graveside service will be held at a later date at Getchell Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the recently established Joan M.
