MILLINOCKET – John M. Pheeney Jr., 84, died Saturday, March 12, 2011, at his home. He was born Sept. 28, 1926, in Millinocket, the son of John and Katherine E. (Luke) Pheeney Sr.
John was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked for Great Northern Paper Co. for more than 40 years, retiring in 1989. John was married to Nadine J. (Brooker) Pheeney for 36 years, and she was the love of his life. They enjoyed spending time together going out to eat and socializing with their friends. John was happiest when he was with Nadine. After her death in 2008, John developed his routine of going out for daily drives around town checking on family and spending afternoons with the guys for coffee. He also enjoyed taking pictures, making videos and watching old movies. John loved spending time with family, especially holidays with his stepdaughter, Patty Boyington and her family.
He is survived by three stepchildren, Patty Boyington and her husband, Dale, of Millinocket, Peggy Tapley of Vassalboro and William Tapley and his wife, Mary Ellen, of Millnocket; four grandchildren, Missy Moscone and her husband, Paul, Michael Day and his wife, Christine, Heather Norton and her husband, Brian, and B.J. Tapley; four great-grandchildren, Deanna Moscone, Bradley Moscone, Zoey Day and Sophie Day; a sister, Patricia “Kitty” St. John and her husband, Tom, of Millinocket; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents and his wife, John was predeceased by a sister, Nadine Pheeney.
At John’s request, there will be no visiting hours. Graveside services will be held at a date to be announced in the spring.
