CALAIS – Raymond Arthur Gaddis, 83, passed away peacefully March 11, 2011, with his family by his side at Calais Regional Hospital. Raymond, known as “Porky” to his friends, was the son of Arthur and Eileen Gaddis. Raymond was born July 25, 1927, “at high noon in the Woodland Junction when it was 94 degrees in the shade.”

Raymond had a love of the outdoors, spending much of his life hunting and fishing. Raymond began work as a teenager at St. Croix Pulp and Paper Mill and retired at the same mill working for George Pacific.

Raymond is survived by three daughters, Gail and her husband, Jim Moffitt, Jeannie and husband, Richard Goggin, and Sally and husband, Craig Seavey, all of Baileyville; one sister, Gloria Smith of Baileyville; seven grandchildren, Jason and his wife, Jill Moffitt, of Holden, Josh and his wife, Leah Moffitt, of Lafargeville, N.Y., Shawn Goggin and his wife, Kate, of Machias, Adam Goggin and his girlfriend, Emily, of Baileyville, Brian Seavey and his fiancee, Tasha, of Baileyville, Shane Seavey and his girlfriend, Heather, of Baileyville and Crystal Seavey and her fiance, Chris, of Baileyville; eight great-grandchildren, Lauren and Logan Moffitt, Nick, Aaron and Janessa Moffitt, Desiree, Josh and Conor, all of whom he loved very much; many special nieces and nephews. Raymond was predeceased by his loving wife of 51 years, Marion; his parents, Arthur and Eileen; two sisters, Alice and Ruth; and infant sister, Shirley.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. March 21 at St. James Catholic Church, Baileyville, by the Rev. Jim Plourde. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Raymond may do so at PAWS Humane Society, Calais, or a charity of their choice. Arrangements by Direct Cremation of Maine, Belfast.
