LEXINGTON TOWNSHIP – Linda Lee Taylor, 65, died very unexpectedly Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at Maine Medical Center, after a short illness. Linda was born Nov. 20, 1945, in Arlington, Mass., the daughter of Herbert L. and Marjorie R. (Burnette) Fowle.
She attended the University of Maine, where she met her husband, Jim Taylor. She and Jim were married June 4, 1966, in Bangor. They lived in several states, Luxembourg and Singapore, as a result of Jim’s work with DuPont and time in the Navy. They moved back to Maine in 2000 and started to build their retirement home in Lexington on old family property surrounded by many flower beds, berry patches and fruit trees. This was the 17th place they had lived in their nearly 45 years of marriage. Linda was a member of Eunice Farnsworth – Ruth Heald Cragin Daughters of the American Revolution and had served as chapter secretary, treasurer and chaplin. Linda was a master at building beautiful flowerbeds. She could be seen most any day when there was not snow on the ground working in her many different flowerbeds. She expanded many of the old beds her mother-in-law had started years ago, as well as planted new. She took great pride in having color in her gardens continuously. She was very content in her gardens surrounded by the beauty of the mountains, trees and animal life of Lexington; and she loved and cherished her new home. She had collected treasures from all the places she and Jim traveled and did a wonderful job of displaying these treasures. Linda’s other haven was their camp on Branch Lake in Ellsworth, where there were many family gatherings and great times. Recently Linda had become very interested in genealogy and exploring the old information and papers left behind by Jim’s mother. She had made great progress tracing the Taylor and Fowle family histories and cataloguing information. Linda was a beautiful wife and was a wonderful mother to twin sons, Steven and Douglas; and she cherished her three granddaughters. It was wonderful to see nanna teaching the little girls how to cook, feed the birds, tend and pick flowers, and pick raspberries or blueberries.
Linda is survived by her husband, Jim; her son, Douglas and his wife, Tami, and their two daughters, Vivian and Violet, of Poughkeepsie N.Y.; her son, Steven and his wife, Julia, and their daughter, Kara, of Savannah, Ga.; her sisters, Cindy Fowle, Patricia Conant and Tammy Fowle; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, March 26, at Linda and Jim’s home, 214 Back Road, Lexington Township. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made in Linda’s memory to American Cancer Society, 1 Bowdoin Mill Island, Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086-1240. Cremation arrangements are by Giberson Funeral Home, 40 Maple St., Madison.
