NEW GLOUCESTER and SOUTH DOVER – Vernon L. Bolster, 100, of New Gloucester, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 26, 2011, in the presence of his family. He had lived in New Gloucester since 1957. He was born Nov. 8, 1910, in South Dover, the second child of Lloyd G. and Nettie C. Bolster.

He graduated from Caribou High School and Colby College, and later took a master’s degree in education from the University of Maine, Orono. A lifelong educator, he taught at schools in New Hampshire and throughout Maine, often serving also as principal.

Mr. Bolster was predeceased by his wife, Edith Hoskin of Houlton. He is survived by his son, James; his daughter, Janis; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

There will be a commemoration of his life held 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, at Wilson’s Funeral Home, Gray.
