WINTHROP – Judy Alice Vickery, 68, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at her home. She was born July 24, 1942, in Augusta, daughter of Robert McCue Vickery and Alyce (Keegan) Vickery.

Judy graduated from Cony High School and worked for the state of Maine for more than 30 years. She started out in cosmetology and moved on to the Department of Motor Vehicles, where she retired as a supervisor. Judy had many hobbies, including ceramics and needlepoint. Her favorite activity after retirement was family genealogy. She spent many tireless hours researching the family and uncovered a vast wealth of information, which she compiled into numerous notebooks. Judy was also a volunteer at Winthrop Public Library.

She was predeceased by her parents; and a niece, Toni Sliva. Judy is survived by her loving sister, Gretchen V. Sliva and her husband, John J., of Randolph; a nephew, J. Scott Sliva and his wife, Sharon, of Randolph; two great-nephews, John S. Sliva and his wife, Charity, of South Gardiner and Matthew R. Sliva of Randolph; an aunt, Selma Marble of Phoenix; and several cousins. The family thanks Judy’s caregivers, Tina Lamareau, Tammy Lovell and Chris Barnard for their care and devotion during Judy’s illness.

Visiting will be held 2-4 p.m. Sunday, April 3, at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, One Church St., Augusta. Judy was a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 60 Bangor St., Augusta, where a funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, April 4. Burial will be held at Hallowell Cemetery at a later date.
