MILLINOCKET – Laraine Edith (Stratton) Whitney, 84, died Saturday, April 2, 2011, at home. She was born June 8, 1926, in Bangor, the daughter of Daniel and Marion (Carll) Stratton.
Laraine lived in Bangor until the age of 7, when she moved to Winn. Laraine was a graduate of Winn High School, and was a loving wife, mother and nana. She was a lifetime member of Chapter No. 55 Order of the Eastern Star. Laraine enjoyed her many summers at their cottage on Center Pond, and loved traveling, gardening and planting flowers.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Edward J. Whitney Jr.; children, Dan and Diane Whitney, and Joe and Bernette Whitney; grandchildren, Scott and Rachael Whitney, Donna and Mike Bard, Darren and Deena Whitney, and Mark and Kellie Whitney; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Riley, Amanda, Devin, Leo, Dane and Mia; great-great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Emma; a sister, Justine Stratton; many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Laraine was predeceased by a brother, Carl Stratton; sister, Luella Ann Thurlow; and very special granddaughter, Heather Whitney.
Friends are invited to visit with the family noon-2 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket, with funeral services beginning 2 p.m. with the Rev. Ian Shearer officiating. Spring interment will be at Lincoln Cemetery.
